68th Street Elementary
For this site, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) preferred to have two-story buildings with subterranean parking and a highly economical design emphasizing simplicity, natural light and energy efficiency. Difficult soil conditions led Miyamoto engineers to design a mat foundation for the structure.
Napa Hall
This new three-story university building is the CSUS campus' Regional Continuing Education Center which houses sensitive computer equipment on the top floor. Therefore, the structure's performance during an earthquake was a design priority. The seismic force resisting system consists of special concentric brace frames.
Placer Hall
This five-story science classroom building is one of the signature buildings on the CSU Sacramento campus. The structural system is composed of steel moment frames with composite floor beams and fluid viscous dampers for seismic energy dissipation.
Ramona Primary School
This campus consists of three separate structures arranged to form an open, yet secure, environment within an urban setting. The structures combine curvilinear shapes, cantilever elements and complex rooflines to create a greater feeling of light and air.
