New Tech High School
The New Tech High School is a direct result of a planning collaboration between students, staff, community members, and professionals. Designed to maintain sustainable integrity, the new facility aligns with both the CHPS (California High Performance Schools) and LEED practices. In celebration of these project goals, thematic signage is incorporated throughout the facility to provide explanation behind the sustainable design elements, and how they impact our environment. This impressive combination of technology and design includes a one story 44,473 sq. ft. building, including an addition and partial retrofit and upgrade to the existing structure. The building houses laboratories, classrooms, group study areas, and a cyber-cafe. Classrooms have access to a shared common space, as well as direct access to exterior learning terraces. The cybercafe features high tech wireless access, along with sustainable features such as all natural day lighting. The lateral force resisting system in the cafe is made of wood shear walls, and steel moment frames.
