Haiti 400,000 Damaged Buildings Repair Program

As a result of the earthquake damage assessment of 400,000 structures, Miyamoto International has identified 100,000 repairable buildings in Port-au-Prince. Repair assessments are being conducted with Ministry of Public Works, Transport, and Communications (MTPTC) approval, and 250 Haitian engineers are being utilized to make the repairs in compliance with an international quality-control method. Four hundred trained masons and contractors are also making repairs under the MTPTC-developed program, creating a community-based construction management program. Since the initial repair assessments, more than 1000 buildings have been repaired, allowing many families to leave the temporary campsites and return home. Pursuant to the international standard, each structure takes three days to repair, with an average estimated cost of US$1000 for labor and material, plus management. To provide real-time information on repair efforts, Miyamoto uses the MTPTC-approved personal digital assistant (PDA) database management system. The system allows engineers in the field to upload assessment information electronically to a master database.
