Test frame for 100 kip dampers, conduct laboratory tests on dampers, dynamic field test of the bridge
As part of a retrofit for the Golden Gate Bridge, viscous dampers will be added to the North and South pylons. Our UC Berkeley team was charged with two tasks: 1) set up a frame and conduct laboratory tests of dampers from various vendors; 2) Conduct field tests and experimentally measure the dynamic properties of the bridge and its components to correlate the data with available analytical results .
