H. Kit Miyamoto, Ph.D., S.E. is the CEO of and a structural engineer for Miyamoto International and Global Risk Miyamoto. Under his leadership over 7,000 projects have been successfully completed worldwide. Known for innovative engineering, Dr. Miyamoto works on many projects that receive industry recognition including the SEAOC Excellence in Structural Engineering award. He holds graduate degrees from the Tokyo Institute of Technology and the California State University. He specializes in high performance earthquake engineering and probabilistic performance evaluation. Dr. Miyamoto was a director for the Structural Engineering Association of California (SEAOC), is an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Fellow, and has served on many code writing organizations including the ASCE 7 Seismic Task Committee. He was an adjunct professor at the California State University. He works on major disaster risk reduction and response projects which includes his work with the World Bank as an expert consultant for the Istanbul 1000 schools seismic risk mitigation project. Presently, Dr. Miyamoto is working with the Government of Haiti and the United Nations and has partnered with them to conduct assessments for over 200,000 earthquake damaged structures. He continues to work with the Government of Haiti, United Nations, United States Agency for International Development, and various Non-governmental organizations to implement strategies for the reconstruction of Port-au-Prince. He is a frequent international media spokesperson for earthquake structural engineering issues.
